Tyra Banks made a surprise visit to the High School for Teaching and Professions in the Bedford Park neighborhood of New York’s Bronx borough to congratulate students for beating 90 other schools so far in a nationwide competition to improve attendance rates and promote her “Modelland” book.

“She makes you want to accomplish the goals you have in life,” gushed Ashley Rosado, a 18 year old senior with aspiriations of becoming a veterinarian. “Basically, she’s saying you can do it if you go to school.”

TypeF’s mission statement includes providing women with “a fresh take on fashion and beauty and empowers them to discover their unique personal style.” So, what in the hell is really going on with the church’s money?

Harvard Business School student Tyra Banks gave Minnie Mouse a free smizing lesson during her trip to Walt Disney’s Hollywood Studios earlier this week. The model mogul tells Life & Style magazine the model that she loves her new curvaceous figure, adding she’s happy to have gained a few pounds over the years as she felt self-conscious as a skinny teenager.

‘I’m proud of my curves and my butt and my bust and my thicker thighs,’ she tells Life & Style exclusively in the new issue, on newsstands now.

For more than two decades, the supermodel has been on a weight roller coaster that ultimately left her feeling too skinny for her 5-foot-10 frame. As a superskinny teen, Tyra admits that she was ‘a little bit reclusive’ because she was self-conscious about her body. ‘At 14, 15 years old I started to gain a little bit of weight and feel better about myself,’ the 37-year-old confides.

But in 2006, a photo surfaced of Tyra at the beach in a one-piece bathing suit looking noticeably heavier and faced criticism of her body. Tyra decided it was time to be more health conscious, so she turned to her Top Model colleagues for motivation. ‘We all made a pact to do a three-month health-and-fitness challenge.’

Tyra dropped 20 pounds and won the challenge, but she quickly remembered why she hadn’t been comfortable being too thin in the past. ‘I didn’t like myself that small, so I gained back some weight,’ she tells Life & Style. Now she stays active without obsessing and eats what she wants in moderation. In her new book, Modelland, out Sept. 13, Tyra says, ‘The message is really about expanding the definition of beauty.’ (source)

When Derek Blanks introduced his alter ego photo spreads a few years ago the signature shoot quickly replaced the public interest (okay, mine) once associated with analyzing the selected shots of the week featured on America’s Next Top Model. Alicia Keys’ inner aggressive stud going head-to-head with her more demure cookie dough eating fem self resonated more with Crunkland, as it should, than some stranger bitch with a fucked up haircut trying to smile with her eyes.

Much like the Pied Pisser of R&B, poor Tyra hasn’t learned to leave those girls right where she found them — in the middle of the mall working the Auntie Anne’s Pretzels booth. Thankfully, she is giving tired viewers a break from that regularly scheduled programming in the upcoming season of ANTM. Here’s to hope that Isis King takes it all!

Us Weekly released promo shots of all fourteen contestants lucky enough to be in the running for ANTM’s all-star crown. The entertainment value of the photos alone sets a high bar for the season: Each of the returning models is, tenuously, re-creating their “character” from the show. Cycle 1’s Shannon is pure and angelic — with a halo no less; cycle 2’s Camille is putting the capital F in Fierce, if not Feral; and cycle 12’s Allison is doll-like, but eerie. And then, of course, there’s cycle 5’s Lisa touching her toes like she’s the hired entertainment at a fraternity’s foam party. In conjunction with the launch of her beauty website, Type F, Harvard Business School student Tyra Banks jump started her Tuesday morning with a trip to the New York Stock Exchange.

“It means whatever you want to mean. For me it means type fierce. It’s a place; to me, it’s a revolutionary destination where women can come and get personalized information for them based on their specific body types,” she said explaining Type F’s purpose to CBS News.

“If you look at fashion beauty magazines, they say, ‘You have to look like this, you better look like this, if you don’t look like this, you’re not good enough.’ Type F says the exact opposite. You would give us all your information, your eye shape, your face shape, your skin color, every single thing about you, and then we start to deliver information based on you. You’re the star and when you come back, we greet you by name and you get information for you.”

Since announcing and actually fulfilling her promise of ending her talk show after five years, Tyra Banks influence on TV and her role in fashion seems to be discussed everywhere, whether its bloggers writing about somewhat overbearing behavior or journalists actually applauding her ascent beyond just the role of “supermodel.” Either way, she doesn’t seem to go away fast enough.

Paying tribute to the late fashion designer Alexander McQueen, Tyra and her cohort in fuckery Andre Leon Talley decided to put on their most gaudy robes and pose together. It’s no Derek Blanks photo shoot but it will do.
