It’s the super revealing red carpet moment that everybody is talking — and sadly, it doesn’t involve Aretha Franklin overexposing her breasts.
Rihanna‘s stylist Mel Ottenberg and dress designer Adam Selman are opening up about the completely sheer dress coming soon to Kordell Stewart’s next drag showcase that the goat whisperer donned while accepting Fashion Icon Award honors at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards in New York City last night.
“It’s so naked,” Mel told Style.com. “I don’t know if it’s shocking—I’m with her all the time, so my shock gauge is off, but I told her that I thought she was ready for this dress a while ago, and that I wasn’t. I’m the prude, and I’m just catching up.”
“So many people didn’t sleep last night,” he added. “I would say at least eight people worked nonstop from 8 p.m. last night to 3 p.m. today putting on the finishing touches.”
“We definitely wanted to make it a little bit scandalous,” Adam said about the custom fishnet dress, gloves and headscarf hand embellished with over 216,000 Swarovski crystals. “The dress is just fishnet and crystals and a couple of fingers crossed. But fashion is about beauty, and the [female] body is part of that.”

Rihanna was booted from the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in the United Arab Emirates over the weekend after posing for a photo op that didn’t mesh with ‘sanctity’ standards of the holy site. Way to go, Cynthia Doll.
Allow Michael K. from Dlisted to explain:
RiRi’s Cubic Zirconias World Tour stopped in Abu Dhabi over the weekend and on Saturday she decided to put on a hijab and bust out an Instagram photo shoot at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. We as a people should gather together as one and be thankful that RiRi covered up her fugilicious tattoos for once, but not everyone is happy about this shit. After striking ridiculous pose after ridiculous pose on the grounds of the Grand Mosque, RiRi was kicked out by officials who were offended by her little photo shoot.
“She left without entering the mosque, after being asked to do so, due to the fact that she had taken some pictures that do not conform with the conditions and regulations put in place by the Centre’s management to regulate visits in a way that takes the status and sanctity of the mosque into consideration,” a representative for the mosque told media outlets in a statement.
What started out as a social media shade war has morphed itself into a petition demanding Adidas-Reebok cut their endorsement ties with Teyana Taylor for posting a photoshopped image poking fun at Rihanna‘s battered and bruised face following her domestic abuse situation with Chris Brown as a Twitter background.
Teyana previously secured a deal to design footwear for Adidas Original. She released her first sneaker, the Harlem GLC, earlier this year. Her second highly-anticipated offering is reportedly due out in November.
