Question of the Day

The Smithsonian Institution wants to put Aretha Franklin’s big-bowed inauguration hat in an exhibit that will highlight Barack Obama’s place in history as the first African-American president.

The dove-gray, wool chapeau, dominated by a massive Swarovski rhinestone-bordered bow, would be displayed alongside other inaugural items, including first lady Michelle Obama’s asymmetrical ball gown from the historic evening . . .

Aretha is still uncertain whether or not she’ll donate the hat. “I am considering it. It would be hard to part with my chapeau since it was such a crowning moment in history. I would like to smile every time I look back at it and remember what a great moment it was in American and African-American history. Ten cheers for President Obama,” she said in a statement, according to New York magazine.

And ten orders of wings, fried hard please. What are some celebrity items that you would like to see make a home at The Smithsonian? I vote for Verdine White’s silk pillow case!

What Bust It Creole Wants, Bust It Creole Gets

Sure, it’s not as good of a gig as singing at the actual inauguration ceremony but it was the best that Papa Joe 2.0 could do in the time crunch.

56291024 What Bust It Creole Wants, Bust It Creole Gets Beyonce will sing for Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance on inauguration night.

And the song? “Crazy in Love?” Her version of Etta James’ “At Last?”

The Presidential Inaugural Committee isn’t saying. “It is our hope that we can keep the song secret until the moment,” said spokeswoman Linda Douglass.

Beyonce is part of the star-studded lineup at the official Neighborhood Ball that will be televised on ABC, along with her husband Jay-Z, will.i.am, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Sting, Faith Hill, Mary J. Blige, Stevie Wonder and Maroon 5.

The Presidential Inaugural Committee said Thursday that presenters at the ball will include Denzel Washington, Jessica Alba, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ray Romano, Jamie Foxx, Queen Latifah and Kate Walsh.

The Neighborhood Ball is for Washington, D.C. residents, and will be broadcast live and streamed online with an interactive component on the Internet. The inaugural Web site allows people to host or find viewing parties around the country. [source]

ROFLMAO.

News Break

Conservative Queen Anne Coulter made an appearance this morning on the Today Show after NBC dropped her from Tuesday’s line up, which the Drudge Report called an attempt to boycott Coulter and her new book.

[Eli Porter pause]

In her new book, Guilty: Liberal ‘Victims’ and their Assault on America, she goes in on Michelle Obama accusing the future First Lady of jacking Jackie O’s [not the rapper, ahem, 90's babies] style.

Singling out the President-elect’s wife, Coulter wrote, “Her obvious imitation of Jackie O’s style – the flipped-under hair, the sleeveless A-line dresses, the short strands of fake pearls – would have been laughable if done by anyone other than a media-designated saint.”

Coulter said Cindy McCain, the wife of Republican presidential nominee John McCain, “dressed well without freakishly imitating famous First Ladies in history.”

The author goes on to sarcastically refer to Michelle Obama as a “saint” and “Mother Teresa” and suggests that her public service career “advanced in lockstep with the political advancement of her husband.”

Meanwhile, Coulter repeatedly refers to the President-elect as “B. Hussein Obama” and complains that the media “literally wanted to have sex with him.” [source]

Ty Ty is back to her publicity stunts for, well, publicity again! She is really taking this “investigative journalism” stuff too far. First she dresses up as a homeless person for a day then she uncovered “hidden” discrimination towards Team Chunk members by donning a fat suit.

This time she tried to dress up as Michelle Obama for the September cover of Harper’s Bazaar.

“It’s a full makeover,” an insider told Page Six. “You know how Tyra likes to do that stuff. And she’ll get a lot of press off it.”

Batch please.

Nas Delivers Petition to Fox News

nasfox Nas Delivers Petition to Fox News

Nas joined political groups Color of Change and Move On, along with fans and protesters, outside of the “Sly Fox” News building in New York to protest the network’s portrayal of African-Americans.

Color of Change and Move On delivered several boxes containing a petition signed by more than 620,000 people to support their cause, although Fox News refused to accept them.

Nas briefly spoke to the crowd of nearly 100 people and urged them to “stop the racist smears on the Obamas and black Americans.” In his speech, he cited examples of remarks made by Fox reporters that he and supporters found to be racist, including a reference to Michelle Obama as Barack Obama’s “baby mama,” and a fist bump between the couple as a “terrorist fist jab.”

Your two cents required: What do you think of Nas and others stepping forward and speaking out against Fox News?

It’s always a sad occurence when every time I see Michelle Williams my first thought is “who in the hell let you out of the crypt?” versus thinking “it’s great to see your face again, girl!”

Somebody is trying to get a second gig as Michelle Obama’s understudy now, eh? No hate here today, I am all for back up plans.

Shug Avery had the first lady at bingo night look under lock and key at the A Great Night In Harlem benefit concert on Thursday night. You better believe that someone made it rain on her with seed offering envelopes during the course of the evening.
