Willona Woods isn’t bragging about her physical prowess [as displayed in the video of her bitch smacking Kendu] but trying to make the world a better place one  garment at a time. On Wednesday she and designer Catherine Malandrino debuted their limited-edition FFAWN + Catherine Malandrino capsule collection of t-shirts at Bloomingdale’s flagship New York City store. A portion of the sales from this event will benefit the Foundation For the Advancement of Women Now.

The rest of the money will be put to good use by sending Mary’s sister LaTanya to singing lessons. Need I remind you what she sounds like?

Queen Latifah was a fat kid in the candy shop on Saturday night.

Held at the New York Times Center, the Black Girls Rock Awards honors African-American women making strides in arts and entertainment. Janelle Monáe, Mary J. Blige, Salt-N-Pepa’s Spinderella and “#1 Soul Brother” winner Anthony Hamilton were among the honorees at the  fund raising event for the Black Girls Rock organization founded by celebrity DJ Beverly Bond.

Not everyone was in New York City for the VMAs or to sit front row at the She By Sheree fashion show. Oprah, Tyler Perry. Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, and others were busy in Canada promoting the upcoming film ‘Precious’ at the 2009 Toronto International Film Festival. Here is what Crunkland newbie Gess Me had to say about the movie:

I’m new to the site and came across this trailer for a movie starring Mo’Nique and Mariah Carey that actually looks good! No really! Even’s Tyler Perry’s association with it doesn’t seem to have ruined it. Don’t worry. I didn’t see Madea anywhere in the trailer. Besides, Oprah’s involved with the project and you know she’ll only tolerate so much coonery. After seeing the trailer, I have to say I’m proud of Mo’Nique, Mariah, AND Tyler. You see what happens when we allow ourselves to be great? We get, you know, greatness and sh*t. Anyway, the movie already has a buzz about it that includes talk of Oscars for Mo’Nique’s performance. Let’s just hope someone finally introduces her to a 10-pk of Bic Classic Lady shavers before her stroll down the red carpet! Check out the trailer and share with The Bocks, if you like.
