In news related to the actress, Deadline.com reports that Simon reports Simon Cowell’s production company will partner with Jada and husband Will Smith’s Overbook Entertainment on a live, new international TV format to find the world’s greatest DJs.
After three seasons, TNT has canned the medical drama ‘HawthoRNe.’
The series, which starred Jada Pinkett Smith as hospital executive Christina Hawthorne and Michael Vartan as her husband, surgeon Tom Wakefield, aired its last episode on August 16. The show averaged about 2.4 million viewers compared to about 3.2 million a year earlier, ranking as TNT’s second lowest rated show of the summer behind ‘Men of a Certain Age.’
TNT’s statement: “TNT has decided not to order a fourth season of HawthoRNe. TNT truly appreciates the tremendous dedication of everyone involved in HawthoRNe. The series gave TNT the opportunity to work with many outstanding people, including Jada Pinkett Smith and the rest of the show’s talented cast, crew, producers and writers. We wish everyone involved with HawthoRNe nothing but the best.”
The series had generated headlines recently, with rumors that Smith and her castmate Marc Anthony, recently split from his wife Jennifer Lopez, had engaged in an affair. Smith and her husband, Will Smith, issued a statement denying the rumor.

During a conversation with actress Jada Pinkett Smith on Saturday at the Festival of Books, author Sister Souljah fielded several questions from the audience, two of which began in a foreign language. The presence of these voices seemed particularly appropriate, as Souljah’s new novel happens to be a global love story.
“Midnight and the Meaning of Love” is a follow-up to Souljah’s 2008 novel “Midnight: A Gangster Love Story,” which is a prequel to her best-known and bestselling 1999 novel, “The Coldest Winter Ever.” The new book chronicles the relationship of two immigrants in America (one from Africa and one from Japan).
Souljah lived in Japan for three years and traveled to Korea and China in preparation for her latest book. She sought to immerse herself and her family in the different cultures to better understand their perspective, specifically in the way they experience and express love.
