Jennifer Hudson struggled to hold back tears as she was honored has a co-founder of the Julian D. King Foundation at the VH1 2013 Do Something! Awards in Hollywood, California on Wednesday night (July 31). The foundation is named after her late nephew who was murdered along with her mother and brother in 2008.
“Wow, I wasn’t gonna cry but I’m a cry baby so I can’t help it,” the 31-year-old singer said after accepting her award from presenter Ne-Yo.
”It just shows how much it warms my heart to see so many blessed from our blessings in honor of my nephew and to make a difference in the world,” she added. “It’s one thing to be a celebrity, but it means nothing if you can’t help somebody, make a difference or change.”
The organization aims to “provide stability, support and positive experiences for children of all backgrounds so that they will become productive, confident and happy adults.”
