DME Interactive CEO Darien Dash, who settled his $48 million lawsuit against Michael Jackson back in 2007 to the tune of a cool $5 million, is in charge of one of a handful of boutique lenders which focus primarily on the business of professional athletics.

An investigation by Yahoo Sports has found that players from as many as 16 NFL teams have already begun securing high-interest, short term loans, in anticipation of the NFL lockout. The interest on these loans can be anywhere from 18 to 36 percent, putting them on par with bad credit cards or even payday loan services. In addition, some of the lenders have required players to get insurance policies to cover the loans, in case they’re injured. That can add tens of thousands of dollars to the cost of loans. (source)

German pop star Nadja Benaissa and her lawyer Oliver Wallasch wait for the start of her trial in the district court house on August 16, 2010 in Darmstadt, Germany.

A singer from the German girl band No Angels, Benaissa has admitted to having unprotected sex with three male partners without warning them that she was HIV-positive.

“I never wanted this to happen to one of my partners,” Benaissa told justices Monday at the District Court of Darmstadt in Germany. “I am sorry with all my heart.”

When discussing why she didn’t tell her partners about her dangerous condition, the singer said that she was “careless during those days,” the Telegraph reports.

The man Benaissa infected was to testify later in the hearing. The defendant was planning to have an HIV/AIDS expert, Dr. Josef Eberle, defend her on the witness stand.

Eberle was to testify that the victim may have contracted HIV from someone other than the singer, according to the paper.

Benaissa was arrested in April 2009. Though the case has been handled by a juvenile court because her infection occurred at age 17, she faces up to 10 years in prison if she’s convicted.

The star was diagnosed as HIV positive during a pregnancy test in 2000, the same year No Angels was discovered during a televised talent show.

Between 2000 and 2004, Benaissa reportedly had sex with the three men in question up to five times. In court, she said the “handling” of her illness and her failure to disclose it her partners was “wrong.”

“It was said to me that the probability of me passing on the virus was practically zero,” Benaissa said in a statement.

“Therefore I also concealed the fact that I was infected to my acquaintances. I did not want my daughter to be branded by this. I told the band members because I trusted them. I never made it public because I thought that would mean the end of the band.” (source)

Chiefs starting wide receiver Chris Chambers, got married in Las Vegas, NV on July 24, 2010 according to the Clark County, NV Recorders Office. The jaw-dropping part of the story is that he married Stacey Bernice Saunders, a woman with whom he had an affair while he was married and playing for the San Diego Chargers. She is also someone that he filed 11 separate misdemeanor counts of stalking and harassment against in 2009.

Chambers asked the Court for a restraining order against Saunders in the summer of 2009 because she reportedly “launched an incessant attack verbally on me, and now my wife, her mother and sister.” According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chambers said the texts, e-mails and phone calls he and his family received were “abusive, vulgar and irrational,”.

Neither Chambers nor Saunders showed up to court for the restraining order hearing and it was dropped. A week later, Chambers filed for divorce from his wife citing “irreconcilable differences.” Uh-huh. (continue reading)

So you see, the contestants on Chad Ochocinco’s reality show have been going about things the wrong way all this time.

The case of a 22 year-old California woman who died this weekend after receiving silicone injections to the buttocks is just the latest tragedy in a string of illegal cosmetic surgeries that are dominating Hispanic and Brazilian communities, experts say.

Mayra Lissette Contreras is thought to have suffered respiratory failure after alleged “silicone sisters” Guadalupe Viveros and Alejandra Viveros injected large amounts of what they said was silicone into the young woman’s buttocks for a fuller shape.

While the sisters claimed to be doctors back in their native country of Mexico, they didn’t have a license to practice medicine in the United States. The injections were done in their home, and they reportedly advertised butt augmentation services in flyers that were handed out in public parking lots.

The duo had already been under investigation by local law enforcement after other victims went to police with complaints of being sickened after receiving silicone injections. They were both arrested on June 21st, but released after posting a $20,000 bail — and have since fled.

Neighbors in the Los Angeles town of Sylmar suspect the two have most likely escaped back to Mexico.

Experts say the red flags were glaringly obvious.

“This poor woman may have been the victim of her own ignorance. Common sense should tell you that something is not right when you’re having a medical procedure in some one’s home,” says Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Leslie H. Stevens. “A more likely scenario is that the victim knew what she was doing and unfortunately was willing to take her chances.”

Silicone is most well-known for its use in breast implants, where the FDA-approved medical grade material is safely encased in a closed shell.

Plastic surgeons stress that silicone should never be injected freely into the body, as it often solidifies into rock-like lumps. It can also be mistakenly injected into a vein that would allow the silicone to rapidly travel to and block the lungs, which is what is believed to have happened to Contreras, pending an autopsy.

There is one FDA-approved exception; a silicone oil called Silikon 1000 has been deemed safe for eye fluid replacement — but is not used for cosmetic purposes. Some plastic surgeons do use tiny silicone oil droplets off-label as facial injections to prop up pitted acne scars and to flatten wrinkles, but former president of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons Dr. James H. Wells says he doesn’t even believe droplet injections are safe. (continue reading)

An 18-year-old pregnant woman is out on bond tonight after police say she started a riot inside a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant Saturday night.

It happened at the 3600 block of Hickory Hill.

During an interview Monday, Juaneka Key told us she was there with her family celebrating her 2-year-old son’s birthday. However, the night ended at 201 Poplar.

“Everybody’s putting it on me, five of us got arrested: me, my mom, my sister, my boyfriend, and my step-dad,” said Key.

She says it all started because of a long line at the photo booth.

“My sister and little brother were taking pictures, the girl said, ‘Dang how long ya’ll gonna be?’” said Key.

An argument started, escalated and turned into a brawl when police say Key’s step-dad intervened, punched the girl and gave her a black eye.

“Other people [began] jumping in that didn’t have nothing to do with the fight,” said Key.

Court papers describe absolute chaos with fists flying between both the victim’s family and the suspect’s. Police say customers and children began panicking and running from the scene to avoid getting involved.

Managers at Chuck E. Cheese’s declined comment. Though they have several surveillance cameras there, a worker tells us none were pointed at the incident.

Nearby shoppers call it ridiculous.

“Kinda a kid environment, for adults to act like that is kinda disturbing to me,” said Bertha Waller.

“I feel so embarrassed,” said Key.

But the teen says she has no regrets and denies any of this was her fault.

“The fact that I’m pregnant, why am I gonna fight? I’m not trying to lose my child,” said Key.

Both Key and her step-dad face charges of Disorderly Conduct and Inciting a Riot. The two other suspects face charges of threatening cops as they tried to break up the fight, as well as Possession of Marijuana. [watch video here]
