Just so that we’re clear, House Mother Kanye was always a ball room legend in his own mind.
While promoting his upcoming nine-show run at Radio City Music Hall, comedian Dave Chappelle visited by The Tonight Show to promote his upcoming nine-show run at Radio City Music Hall last week. During his appearance, Dave recalled stories about Prince and The Roots, but the highlight was when he detailed the first time he met HMK.
While making ‘The Chappelle Show’, a virtually unknown HMK was chilling with Dave, Jay-Z, Talib Kweli, and Common listening to the newly-released ‘Black Album’ inside Dave’s studio. In the opening seconds of “Lucifer”, Hov says, “Kanyeezy, you’s a genius. You did it again!” At that point, Dave says, “Kanye stood up. First time he spoke all day, and he goes, ‘Stop the record! And rewind that.’
Later, HMK took a phone call during which he announced, “‘Hello? No, I can’t. Because I’m at the edit for the ‘Dave Chappelle Show’, watching sketches that no one’s seen before.’ ” HMK dramatically paused for a second before declaring, “‘Cause my life is dope and I do dope shitt,” before hanging up the phone.
More than a decade later, New York City is still wrapped up in LeBeija.
