Rihanna made a bold fashion play by donning a pair of unique double denim jeans from her new River Island collection at a party in London to promote the line on Monday night.
According to the item’s description on River Island’s website, the jeans are a “cool take on mixing denim” that is a “huge spring trend ready-made.”
Sure, Rihanna can get away with wearing almost anything but where does that leave the average gal?
In a fitting room with this priceless facial expression. BuzzFeed staffer Amy Odell tried on a pair of the double top straight jeans and other items from the collection — including a pair of high-waisted jail-inspired shorts and little black dress with lots of side boob action — at Opening Ceremony’s Howard Street location in New York City on Tuesday.
What a brave, brave soul. Seven words come to mind that describe what I would look like if I tried out the double denim trend for myself: overweight electrical apprentice with limited fashion choices.
This turtleneck ($90) has a diagonal opening in the back, so I really hope you hate bras if you buy this. No, really I do, because this line hates your bras like the Daily Beast hates Rihanna. Bras + Rihanna are like cats + water — just not really meant to be combined.
As for the jeans, they’re $150 and a sales person told me the 20 pairs they had were nearly sold out (another shipment of them is said to be coming at an unknown date, horror of horrors). So you might be looking at the last pair (which I did not BUY — don’t worry) right here.
They’re extremely ill-fitting and stiff like a thick canvas. They also seem totally overpriced, but that probably depends on whether or not you see this garment as one or two pairs of jeans.
