Miguel snatched the thunder away from headling act Trey Songz’s chest tattoo for bourbon chicken by performing shirtless during the Chapter V tour stop at Madison Square Gardens on Wednesday night (December 5).
On the same evening The Recording Academy announced the nominees for the 2013 Grammy Awards, with the 26-year-old singer receiving five nominations following last year’s snub.
“I think through that experience I learned, or I was reminded, that all of this is icing on the cake. The real blessing is that people are actually listening to the music,” he said in an interview. “I take it in stride and I feel really blessed and I’m incredibly humbled by it.”
‘Kaleidscope Dream’ is nominated for best urban contemporary album, a new category that recognizes R&B albums with edge and multiple sounds. “That’s a huge compliment to say that your entire body of work was the best of the year,” he said of the honor. “That’s the one that means the most to me. I’m really hoping maybe, just maybe.”
