Music Notes: Ciara Goes Pop On New Leaked Track “Overdose”

Is the Princess of Crunk leaving her urban roots and getting on the pop train?

Well some loyal C-Squad soldiers were left confused when a Ciara track entitled “Overdose” leaked online this week. Some stans praised the singer for finally producing a hit while others begged for her to go back to her “Black sound.”

Whether fans think she sounds like a watered down Britney Spears or Janet Jackson, let’s be honest CiCi needs a hit. Her first single “Sweat” made no impact on the charts. It was scrapped by her new record label Epic and wasn’t even available for digital download.

“Overdose” is a very basic pop record perfect for the summer time. Unlike “Sweat,” her label seems to be more behind “Overdose” with Epic Records CEO LA Reid asking what fans thought of the song via Twitter on Monday (July 16) . One Woman Army  is set to be released this October.

If Ciara doesn’t want another Basic Instinct - selling less than 40,000 albums opening week – she needs to expand her music catalogue and try and reach a larger audience while not ignoring the stans, who are the first to defend her when others come for their girl.
