Appearing on ‘The Wendy Williams Show’ this week, Star Jones clarified that the coalition she launched against ‘Basketball Wives’ back in April (click here if you missed it) was not the same as the online petition started by a Spelman College student to boycott the reality show.
“I was never encouraging anybody to boycott somebody’s job. That’s not what I’m about,” said Star who recently celebrated turning the big 5-0 with a celebration in the Gansevoort Hotel penthouse lasting two days.
“It just struck me really, really to the core that young Brown girls were watching this example of Brown women on television and getting their self image,” added Star when discussing the infamous episode of the reality show where Evelyn Lozada sprinted down a table following her assistant Nia Crooks gave Jennifer Williams five fingers to the face.

“I started to talk about it, and I talked about it on social media and I was pretty harsh when it came down to [it],” Star explained. “We don’t have many options on television to watch Brown women. We don’t have as much as the majority and little girls deserve our very best.”
She also says that she is now mentor to Evelyn after connecting over a “series of conversations and emails” and was impressed with Ev’s letter to her 7-year-old self.
