Buzz Notes: ‘Basketball Wives’ Coming To VH-1 In 2010

Set to premiere in March 2010 on VH-1, ‘Basketball Wives’ will give viewers a behind the scenes look at the hoe shit, um, glamorous life of professional basketball players’ better halves, baby mamas, and ex-broads. Here’s the scoop via C+D friend in the head Karu F. Daniels of BlackVoices:
O’Neal, who serves as Executive Producer, will be featured on the 30-minute series along with wives and ex-wives of superstars including Jennifer Williams (wife of Eric Williams), Evelyn Lozada (ex-fiancé of Antoine Walker), Mesha O’Neal (wife of Jermaine O’Neal), Royce Reed (a former Orlando Magic and Miami Heat dancer, is the mother of Orlando Magic superstar Dwight Howard’s son), and Faith Rain (Udonis Haslem’s girlfriend).
“Having been around these remarkable women for several years, I have always recognized that behind every NBA star is a strong, exceptional woman, one who must deal with the unique challenges of being married to the game as well as the player,” O’Neal said. “I am happy to be teaming with … VH1 in bringing this entertaining and enlightening world to television.”
The O’Neals were married Dec. 26, 2002. Her maiden name is Va’Shaundya Nelson. The couple have four children (Shareef, Amirah, Shaqir, and Me’arah) with two others from previous relationships. While the family currently resides on Star Island in Miami, Florida and have maintained a residence in Windermere, Florida (a northwest Orlando suburb, where the Tiger Woods domestic altercation transpired), they’ve become black gossip blog mainstays for their alleged marital woes.
On Sept. 4, 2007, O’Neal filed for divorce from her in a Miami-Dade Circuit court. She later said that the couple had gotten back together and that the divorce was withdrawn. However, the Associated Press reported that she filed an intent to divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, last month.
Production on the series begins this month.
Now if you remember Dwight Howard blocked Royce Reed from uttering his name in public so I don’t know how she got invited to the party.
