The meeting, dubbed the “beer summit” by the US media, saw Henry Louis Gates Jr and James Crowley of Cambridge police sit with each other in the presence of Obama and Joe Biden, the vice-president.

After the event Crowley described the discussion as “cordial and positive”. He made it clear there were on-going disagreements and no hint of an apology from either side, but that they had “agreed it’s important to look forward rather than backward”. [source]
