A dispute over passing out phone numbers at a party resulted in a stabbing in Horn Lake Monday morning.
“Two young men who had been attending the Gay Pride celebration in Memphis began arguing when one of the men began giving out his cell telephone number at a Memphis nightclub,” said Lt. Scott Evans of the Horn Lake Police Department.
He said the initial argument began when the two were at Club 901, an after-hours South Memphis nightclub.
They were picked up by a young woman and driven back to the Drury Inn here (in Horn Lake), where the argument continued,” Evans said.
“As the argument went on, it escalated and became physical. Then one young man pulled a knife and began stabbing his boyfriend.”
Police were called at 4:40 a.m.
Evans said an 18-year-old man was found with stab wounds to his buttocks and one thigh. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto in Southaven, where he was admitted.
The suspect had fled from the hotel, but Evans said his vehicle was found parked on the lot of Gateway Tire & Service Center at 1010 Goodman Road.
Officers arrested Anthony Perkins, 23, of Indianapolis, who was charged with aggravated assault, DUI and driving on a suspended license.
He said two friends of Perkins and the stabbing victim, Antoinette Wells, 21, and Brandon Harris, 24, both of Indianapolis, were arrested and charged with making false statements to law enforcement officers.
“Both suspects (Wells and Harris) told our officers that someone had been robbed,” Evans said. “Instead, this was a lover’s spat that turned violent.”
Bond for Perkins was set at $52,100. Bonds for Wells and Harris were set at $1,000 each.
Meanwhile, Evans said the 18-year-old stabbing victim, identified as Asa Hairston of Indianapolis, was released from Baptist-DeSoto Monday afternoon. Hairston was also charged with making false statements but was not taken to the jail because of his need for medical care.
“He returned to the Drury to pick up his belongings, but when he did, he passed out and had to be returned to the hospital,” he said. [source]
