Cover To Cover: Estelle in Bleu
Finally! A magazine post that doesn’t involve selling ass to the highest bidder. Who would’ve thunk it?
UK songstress Estelle graces the covers of the Spring 2008 issue of Bleu magazine. The execs at Atlantic Records thought it would be a good idea if she revamped her image, resulting in a trip to the dentist for some braces.
Le sigh. I refuse to deal with that today. Peep an article excerpt + more flicks after the jump.
These days, Estells is busy living the glamorous New York life in Brooklyn, where she moved in early 2007. But a lot of people are comparing her sound to Lauryn Hill. Estelle drops in rhyming on almost every track, making this an album fans old and new can definitely get with.
“If you’re real about your life you need to get this, because I feel we keep giving young people unrealistic ideas of where their lives are going to go. I’m not here to preach to anyone, because I went through so much stuff, relationship-wise and whatever, just to figure out who I was as a woman. But I realized you’re meant to go through it, it’s normal; no one is superwoman. We need to tell kids to be the best human being you can be rather than by age 23 you have to have it all sorted out. It’s a good feeling when you’re compared to a legend. I think they compare me to her [Lauryn Hill] because I’m dark-skinned and I sing and rap. But, if they’re saying the music is just as great, then compare me all day because I’m really happy about that. I am not one to mince words or confuse things. I know exactly what I want.”
Estelle’s album drops on Tuesday, April 29th. Be sure to pick her joint up!
